When Is the Best Time to Deep Clean Your House in Virginia Beach?

Short answer: for most Virginia Beach homes, the best times for a deep clean are late spring, once the pine pollen settles, and mid-fall, before the holidays and before the windows stay shut for winter. If you host Thanksgiving, book it one to two weeks before. With regular cleaning in between, two deep cleans a year is a good rhythm for most homes.
We get asked this a lot, usually by someone standing in their kitchen looking at the top of the fridge for the first time in a year. A deep clean is the visit where we get to the things a regular clean skips: baseboards, ceiling fans, vents, blinds, grout, and the hard-water buildup around faucets. Timing it right means you get the most out of it, and it stays nice longer.
Here are the five questions we hear most about timing, and how we answer them for homes here in Virginia Beach and the rest of Hampton Roads.
1. What's the best time of year to deep clean a house in Virginia Beach?
Twice a year works best here: late spring and mid-fall.
Spring in Hampton Roads comes with that yellow-green pine pollen that coats cars, porches, and window sills from about March into May. If you deep clean in early April, a lot of it is back on your sills and screens two weeks later. Waiting until the pollen has mostly settled, usually late April or May, means the clean actually lasts.
Fall is the other sweet spot. Summer brings in sand, humidity, and a lot of people coming and going. A deep clean in October or early November clears all of that out before you close the windows for winter and before family shows up for the holidays.
2. Is fall really a good time, or should I just wait for spring?
If you only do one deep clean a year, we'd pick fall. Here's the logic.
- Summer leaves the most behind. Beach sand in the corners and door tracks, humid bathrooms where soap scum and mildew build faster, and ceiling fans that ran all season.
- You're about to spend more time inside. Once the windows stay shut, whatever dust is on your vents and fans gets pushed around the house every time the heat kicks on.
- The holidays are coming. A fall deep clean means your regular cleaning before Thanksgiving and Christmas is a quick touch-up, not a scramble.
Spring is still worth doing, especially if anyone in the house is bothered by pollen. But fall gives you more for the same visit.
3. Should I book my deep clean before or after Thanksgiving?
Before, if you're hosting. We suggest one to two weeks ahead of the holiday. That's close enough that the house still looks great when guests arrive, and far enough out that you're not stressing the week of. For Thanksgiving on November 26 this year, that means roughly November 12 to 20.
After the holiday, a regular clean is usually all you need. The heavy work is already done, so the after-party cleanup is mostly floors, kitchen, and bathrooms. If you're not hosting at all, an early December deep clean before Christmas works just as well.

4. How often does a home near the beach actually need a deep clean?
It depends on what happens between visits.
- With regular cleaning every week or every two weeks, two deep cleans a year is plenty. The regular visits keep up with kitchens, bathrooms, and floors, and the deep cleans catch everything else.
- Without regular cleaning, plan on a deep clean every three to four months. Dust on fans and vents and buildup in showers doesn't wait for a schedule.
- With pets, kids, or a lot of beach days, lean toward more often. Sand and pet hair work their way under furniture and into tracks faster than you'd think.
That's also why every recurring plan we start begins with one deep clean. It gives us a clean starting point, so each regular visit after that is about keeping it that way.
5. How far ahead should I book a deep clean in Hampton Roads?
For most of the year, one to two weeks ahead is fine. Two times are different:
- The weeks before Thanksgiving and Christmas, when a lot of people want the same few days.
- The end of each month, when leases end and move-out cleans pile up, especially around military moves.
If you're aiming for one of those windows, book as early as you can and give us a backup date. It makes it much easier to fit you in on a day that works.
